From theoretical knowledge to practical solutions

Hermann Held talks about the challenges of climate change

When it comes to assessing the consequences of climate change and developing appropriate strategies for dealing with changing environmental conditions, science, politics and society must think and act in new categories.

Hermann Held, SeaUseTip consortium member and climate expert in the Cluster of Excellence "Climate, Climatic Change, and Society" (CLICCS) at the University of Hamburg talks in an interview about challenges, difficulties and opportunities.

For the development of innovative solutions, it is important that the various scientific disciplines join forces. It is also necessary to reconcile well-founded findings and considerations on precautionary measures and to constantly refine them as knowledge grows. A new evaluation scheme, which the experts are currently developing, shall act as a useful tool in this process.

New information formats can also help to bring knowledge about climate change into society in a comprehensible way and to promote the will of citizens to participate in the development of new concepts.

Hermann Held will be discussing these topics with other experts in a panel discussion at the 17th Hamburg Offshore Wind Conference on 7 April 2020.
